Best for: Boats where the factory speakers are being replaced and the owner wants a meaningful improvement without going to the top of the range. Cockpit and cabin applications where the acoustic environment is more forgiving.
M6 Series: The Audiophile Build
The M6 is where JL Audio's marine engineering reaches its peak. Woven glass fiber cones replace polypropylene — stiffer, lighter, and more dimensionally stable across temperature extremes. Aluminum dome tweeters replace silk — faster transient response, better high-frequency extension. Die-cast aluminum grilles replace stamped stainless. The result is a speaker that sounds noticeably better, particularly in the midrange and high frequencies where music detail lives.

Tower & Wake Speakers
Both the M3 and M6 series include tower speaker options in 7.7" and 8.8" configurations. Tower speakers are a different acoustic challenge than cockpit speakers — they need to throw sound at distance, compete with wind noise, and handle significantly more power. JL Audio's tower speakers use the same cone and tweeter technology as their flush-mount counterparts, paired with enclosures designed for tower mounting.
For tower applications, we recommend the M6 series. The sensitivity advantage and aluminum dome tweeter make a meaningful difference when the speaker is aimed away from listeners at distance.
MX Subwoofers
JL Audio's MX series subwoofers (MX10IB3 and MX12IB3) are designed for sealed or ported marine enclosures. The 10" is appropriate for most center consoles and bay boats with limited under-seat space. The 12" delivers more output and lower extension for larger vessels or builds where bass performance is a priority. Both use JL Audio's W3 motor structure adapted for marine use — the same technology that made JL Audio's car subwoofers the reference standard.
MX Amplifiers
JL Audio's MX amplifiers are designed to pair with their marine speakers. The MX280/4 (4-channel, 70W × 4) is the standard recommendation for a 4-speaker cockpit build. The MX500/1 monoblock handles subwoofer duty. For tower speaker builds, the MX360/4 provides the higher per-channel power tower speakers need. All MX amplifiers are fully marine-rated — conformal-coated boards, stainless hardware, and sealed chassis.
